I was surprised we were talking about commercial success though. Is that what Grammys look at? :jolieoverit:

They voted for Xtina because of her stronger vocals I guess. Isn't that their focus anyways in this award show? But again, Meghan won the award with stronger vocalists as her competitors. I'm confused, they're really bipolar. Perhaps because it was close commercially (in the US) between Xtina and Britney so they went for the vocals.

Ideally no, commercial success shouldn't matter, but it's become more and more obvious of late that it's a huge component (and then they'll occasionally grab some total unknown indie act and give them 50 awards in one night to reestablish credibility, haha).

I definitely agree re: the bipolar comment, their purported criteria vacillates enormously.

here we go with the sarcasm No one said she invented R&B. But my point still stands there is NO one especially female that is bigger than Beyoncé in R&B. She wins off name recognition alone.

Still, Michael Jackson was pop, r&b, rock and still has less Grammys. Even artists like Aretha Franklin, Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen have less Grammys than her. This so called ultimate music award is biased. Criticisms don't come only from Britney fans or Katy Perry fans for instance but from professional music journalists who point out that these awards are given because of great marketing instead of how good music can be.

I understand what you're saying, but what I'm saying is that she plays her cards well. She dominates R&B so she submits her work predominantly for those categories. The Grammy committee members that aren't familiar with R&B will pick Beyonce because her name is one they know and probably respect more than K.Michelles and Fantasias.

Aretha Franklin like Beyonce won most of her Grammys in R&B vocal categories. The reason she has less than Beyoncé, and it's only like 2 less than her, is only due to the fact that they added the Rap/Sung collaboration category in the mid to late 90's, something that clearly Aretha cannnot win.

Michael Jackson submitted most of his solo work for Pop categories, when he did submit his work for R&B categories he mostly won.

Kanye West has more Grammys than Beyoncé, all of which are from rap categories except the one he won for writing Alicia Keys song. They both know how to play this game of what to submit and for which category.

I totally get your point but the grammy committee? I thought, and I'm pretty sure that there is a committee for each genre? I mean, the committe isn't the same for r&b that it is for rock or for jazz right?

No. Everybody gets to vote in the Big 4 (song, record, album, and new artist) categories and there's a set number of votes they can have for the other categories. They prefer them to vote in their respective field but it's not a requirement.

That or she buys her Grammy's

I don't get why people say that. Why would she waste her money buying Grammys in solely R&B (black only) categories instead of buying Grammys in the more respected categories Record of the Year, Album of the Year, or Song of the Year.

I just looked it up, 4 out of the 6 she won were in R&B categories. So what's to laugh about as my point still stands

Not really laughing, I'm just throwing that word around here and there these days (for some reason lmao) :janet:

Strange... Sasha Fierce is a full blown pop album. What did she win those for?

Also doesn't her dad work within the Grammy commity? I'm sure that helps quite a bit, especially during her DC days. They won a few right?

I agree with you Sasha Fierce is a full blown pop album - a horrible one at that minus a few tracks. Beyoncé's vocal style (full of melismas, runs, etc.) leans more towards R&B.

Every artist has someone closely connected to them on the Grammy committee. Did her dad have a deal with other members where it's a you vote for mine, I'll vote for yours? No one knows. Is it possible? Definitely.

If anything I think he taught her how to play this game. Same as Taylor Swift, she made a gamble and released Shake It Off within the time period to count for the 2015 Grammys. But waited to release her album so it would count for the 2016 Album of The Year as to not compete with BEYONCÉ in 2015 which lost anyway.

Wow so it comes down to the vocal style. Interesting info

I guess she really lives for those Grammys if she's so strategic. She's kinda right, they're good for raising your profile  :idkney:

I remember her being nominated in like 08/09 for a single off her debut Album released in 2003. I had to look into that BS, I don't think it's available online anymore but back in like 2009 I was reading the NARAS website and they used to have a list of all categories and what requirements had to be met in order to be eligible. It's actually ridiculous how they nominate and vote.

Britney could've actually been nominated this year for Femme Fatal if her team played the game like Taylor and Beyonce.

They award albums 5 years later? Is that the pattern? :idkney:
