I miss TRL days

I definitely have nostalgia for those days; however, realistically, even if TRL was currently on, I know I wouldn't watch it anyway as adulthood is just far too busy to spend an hour watching Justin Bieber videos every day :tbh:

With that said though, I do definitely miss when music videos were of supreme importance to the artistry and success of a song. During the 90's-early 2000's pop explosion, we had so many huge acts whose MVs were intrinsically correlated with the level of exposure per single; thus, you could always expect the biggest acts to produce creative, visually interesting, and choreography-filled music videos which enhances the song experience so much (at least for me personally).

The pop landscape is just so drastically different now. The vast majority of the biggest artists barely dance and also release extremely basic music videos. So, that's what I miss :soyeah:

ETA: I just watched the video in the OP...I had to laugh when Carson asked Brit, "you have a thing for Vegas, don't you?":oknolol:

I think the problem is that so many of the current acts today try to appear more "mature" and "real" to the point to where if you aren't playing a musical instrument or writing/producing your own music, you aren't considered to be a real artist or musician, which is unfortunate for those that have great ideas and can entertain in other aspects but don't get a second glance because they don't play and instrument or write songs. The beauty of the pop music industry back then was that we knew those pop stars were untouchable and it gave us an opportunity to escape the "real world" and just have a good time with music, which is why music videos and pop acts were very elaborate with their videos and were able to be very much creative and out of this world. We didn't care if they wrote their own music or played their own music or what voice register they can reach with their vocals-- all we cared about was that we were entertained.

Well stated, I agree. I mean, I do love and respect stripped down performances by actual vocalists  (e.g., Kelly Clarkson, Adele, etc), but now everyone is conforming to that aesthetic, even if they aren't vocalists at all (e.g., Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, etc). In the latter cases, since both do have some good pop hits, I'd much rather just be entertained.

Actually I was comparing her prime to now. She was too perfect then...now I can relate with her imperfections because she is just like us.

I wouldn't be surprised if she was tired, within 3 years, she put out

* 3 Studio Albums

* 3 Concert Tours (one in progress, not counting touring with Nsync in 1998)

* HUNDREDS of tv and radio appearances all over the world

It would be pretty easy for her to become overworked imo :donewithit:

Thank you for this people don't realize how much britney had seen and done by the time she was 21, i feel like if she continued working the way she did shed eventually have a mariah circa 2001 meltdown (severe exhaustion from non stop working)

See, when I say I miss the TRL days, I mean I miss when this was how you connected with music. I don't know, tbh; I can't tell if I prefer the way we get music now -- instantly and at the touch of our fingertips -- compared to then, but it's not as important as it used to be and that does sadden me.

But I'd take Currentney on TRL. I just miss TRL. And music video countdowns, making the videos... Diary.... yeah. :brityes:

YES!!! I love all shades of Britney old and new!! I just miss the TRL days!! Requesting your songs and waiting for the arrival of them MTV with Carson. I remember her coming there when Oops dropped I think it was Don't Let me be The last to know" it that cute little ripped sweater and flowing white skirt!! Oh and when the BSB dropped "I want it that way" OMG I went ballistic it was on top forever!! I miss the countdowns, video Premieres  and Making the Video!!
