Some tea about Love Me Down...

I know there's a sea of opinionated threads out there, so I'll add to the mix. I have a feeling I understand why people want Love Me Down as the second single, but I don't think it would go over well at all. While I think Love Me Down has some redeeming qualities, it isn't getting the best rep by reviewers. Here's what they have to say:

  • People.com: "Yet the generic bass drop of "Clumsy" and the half-baked hooks of tracks like "Love Me Down" are missed opportunities given Glory's three-year gestation–the second longest of her career.
  • Rolling Stones: "And since every Britney album needs at least one truly terrible song (that's part of her brand) there's the Gwen Stefani imitation "Love Me Down," and wow – may the words "Britney" and "ska" never appear in the same sentence again."
  • Jump Radio (reviewed by longtime Britney fan): "This one is just meh for me. Don’t tell anyone I said that. It’s not bad, but it’s kind of dry. It reminds me of her last album “Brenda Joan”… It just doesn’t feel like Britney to me. It’s like every other generic song out there right now. It’s catchy with those “oohs” and “aahs” but I could actually seeing this being a reject from one of her last two albums.  It has that 2010ish vibe with the “la la la la las” in there.  Just me?"

While Love Me Down may be uptempo, is catchy, and isn't the worst song on the planet, I agree that it's particular ska style is way overdone and agree that it sounds way too Gwen Stefani-ish. I honestly think the GP would be annoyed if this song were a single or on the radio, given the bolded aspects above. If we want an uptempo single, I honestly think DYWCO or Better (while a deluxe track) would be an obvious choice. If we want a mid tempo, reggae-inspired track that sounds fresh and unlike other songs out there, I think Slumber Party is an obvious choice.

Why are people so attached to Love Me Down? I am not bashing the track or people that like the track, I genuinely want to know why they think it would do well despite all the mainstream criticism it's getting.

Discuss. :queenflopga:

Lol not tea that's three reviews and that doesn't mean anything. That song would do very well as a single

I provided the reviews as an example. Not claiming they speak for an entire group of people. Fans usually go off of their own biases/opinions of what would go over well, so I thought it would be good to bring in some "outside" reviewers perspectives' :)

Love Me Down is too basic to be a second single. Love the song so much but it's not the best option if we're talking about single number 2.

Slumber Party ftw >>>>

But I wouldn't mind LMD to be a third or fourth single, it's still a bop and better than I Wanna Go imo. :feelingmyself:

I feel similarly tbh :saycheese:

Love Me Down, while being my favorite off the album, doesn't have enough of a body of work imo.  It has the two verses, the drop (which is just my favorite, I can't help but feel so good listening to it lol) and then it just dumbs down with that LA LA LA  LOVE ME DOWN x13981 for the remainder of the choruses and end.

Still my favorite, well now that Moodring is coming out, it'll be my second favorite but yeah

'Love Me Down' is one of my faves, but I agree.  It's fun and catchy and she sounds amazing on it; I'm just not sure that it should be a single.  It might be too basic, especially with cool **** like 'Slumber Party' and 'DYWCO?' on the album.  And we definitely don't need people accusing her of ripping off Gwen in addition to Selena, Bieber, etc. :sobbing:

LOL girl bye. Have several seats.:lessons:

You picked out 3 comments from critic reviews which are not at all relevant to the public's interests and likes as a whole.

Critics are people too and have their own individual opinions. Sorry to inform you that 3 comments from 3 individual critics is not a litmus test for the song's potential success  :shameless:

edit: i agree with Better & DYWCO. Great single choices
