Reaction to VMA Performance with non-Britney stan Friends

So, I roped in two of my non-Britney stan friends to watch the VMA performance with me. One is trans female, the other is a straight cis male.  I'm a straight(ish) female.

Anyway, this is exactly what happened without exaggeration:

They thought it was funny I stan for Britney, but wanted to share the experience with me. I was so excited to see her perform the VMAs again! I was squealing excited.
 

They loved the entrance with the screen and the shadows, then the hands later. 

My trans friend thought her yellow sparkly outfit was hideous. My straight male friend wasn't a fan either but he thought the cut was okay. I said I didn't understand the zebra stripes on the backup dancers. Both of them thought the crotch grab and the dancing in front of G-Easy on the floor when the lyrics say "beside me" were demeaning.  They made groaning sounds during that section and one even threatened to click away although I kept her watching.

My trans friend said (after I insisted she watch some primeney videos to compare dance style - I was saying how Britney had improved a lot from back in 2007) that the style of choreography doesn't suit Britney now. It isn't empowering, it's just overly sexualized when before she was more powerful in posture. "She went from being a dominate strong female to a submissive that's passed around..." 

I hadn't thought of that before, so it struck me as a very candid, thought-provoking perspective.  It has been bothering me that her dancing doesn't have purpose like in the older days. There's no artistry.. it's just *** postures or posing.

They didn't comment on her lipping. Overall, they didn't like it and I have to say I am about 50/50 on it. I've said before the problem with a lot of Brit's videos lately is the overt sexuality that's beyond attractive, but it was interesting to hear it from the non-Britney fan side of the pool. 

I didn't want to share this at the time because everyone seemed more pissed about the Beyonce thing, and I didn't want to add negativity, but I thought it would be nice to share for discussion.

I see what your friend is saying about the demaning part.  I kind of got those vibes when she was dancing under G-eazy on the "besides me" part, but I quickly brushed it off because I was focusing on other parts of the performance more and I didn't think that much into it. I didn't think that way of the crotch grab though, but maybe cause we've seen that already in her POM shows so I'm just used to it already.

I totally agree with this part. She has improved A LOT, especially since FF Era.

There's a huge difference between her attitude on stage before and now. She seems to be on the "automatic mode" for some moves, she barely invite the crowd to dance with her as she used to... It's just different. I miss that old attitude on stage tbh.

First of all, why the **** is being a submissive demeaning? Lots of people love it.

 

Second of all, what the **** are they talking about? Hit me one more time? I'm a slave? S&M? Britney never played the submissive role? What the **** ever. Her dancing wasn't so overtly ****** before? HAVE THEY SEEN ONYX?????????
