The thing I HATE about almost every dance heavy Britney performance...

I wish we got that for every music video with a lot of choreo. The Slave one was great too. Baby too but i would have prefered the gym choreo.

Yeah... but why do it during the dance break??  I feel like it really screws the sineger over. She worked so hard on that choreo and most people at that point couldnt see it. I mean yeah most people were focused on the snake but the choreo is a ******* masterpiece. It deserves to be seen.

there needs to be two versions i guess.

I liked seeing the dance break from afar honestly.

It's so cool to see everyone dancing at the same time.

and the stage and all.

 

I hate if it's too far, or too close.

Of course they need to show different shots to show the whole scenario like you said but the OP makes some great points. They should have planned the camera angles based on the performance so they could show the best parts and zoom out or close-up for different moments other than the choreography.

Agree!!! Some angles were really shitty during the **** Clark's Rockin Eve performances. It drives me crazy because the ***** was making an effort.

and this wasn't really a camera man thing but it also annoyed me when she did promo performances of that song they always dimmed/cut off some of the stage lights when she did the break!

THIS! THIS! THIS! OMG! I still think about the horrible recording of HIAM from the FF tour dvd, I was waiting the last part with so much excitement (HIAM slay me big time) and instead of focusing on her dancing they got those useless vapor pillars on camera instead! I hate them!

TBH, it's also a good way to hide some of the dance mistakes.

Remember the MATM performance on TRL in 2003, yeah she messed up some of the steps, but it's not as obvious because of the camera.

Disagree with OP. I think what works for Britney performances is VERY fast cutting - and going from wides to super tight close ups. The tight closeups make her dancing look more vigorous as she hair flips or dances in and out of frame. Cutaways to audience and dancers are intentional (because their energy is higher than Britney’s). I actually wish the **** Clark performance was cut more like this - or more like her ABC special.

this is for me the worst camera angles to capture her performance skill. they didn't know when she gonna dance or not. it's just messed up

I dont have a problem with fast cutting I just dont like them showing the arena or ultra closeups of her face DURING a dance break. I mean these days it doesnt really matter but back in the day it was annoying as ****. I mean the end of the 2000 vmas is so epic but we can barely see it.  the dancebreak from the 2001 vmas was beautiful and we barely see it. those things could and should be avoided.

The BBMA Pretty Girls camera work still makes me angry. Like they showed Iggy bobbing her head when Britney was dancing. Like wtf?! Worst camera work ever!
