Question about Perfume (the song)

This might be me having another flop fan moment if I've only just realised this 

But is Perfume supposed to be written from the point of view of the other woman? Like the "I'll never tell on myself but I hope she smells my perfume" and the "while I wait, I put on my perfume" makes it sort of sound like she's the other woman waiting for this man to leave his wife.

Yeah, I always assumed Britney was the mistress and the other girl in the video was the guy's girlfriend/wife.  But then there's the 'current girlfriend, ex-girlfriend' lyric.  Who knows.

She is the girlfriend and she suspects her bf of cheating with his ex so she sprays her perfume for the other woman to smell to tell her the guy is taken. But she has too much pride to tell anybody that is what she is doing - she'll never tell on herself

Damn, the lyrics are such a beautiful concept when you think about it...  I know the MV gets a lot of ****, but it still hasn't ruined the track for me. 

I remember hearing a gorgeous mash up on soundcloud a long time ago, made me love the song ever more.
