...Baby One More Time music video premieres in 1998

This event begins 11/24/1998 and repeats every year forever

On November 24, 1998, the ...Baby One More Time music video premiered, launching Britney Spears' career and changing the music scene forever. The video was directed by Nigel **** and it was filmed from August 6 - August 8, 1998. The video was originally planned to be completely different from the final product we know: it was supposed to take place in a cartoon-like environment in an attempt to appeal to younger audiences. However Britney was not happy with the idea and argued she wanted the video to reflect the lives of her fans, which would be around her same age, and wanted the video to take place in a school. The original idea was scrapped and they decided to go on with Britney's concept. Nigel's idea for the wardrobe was jeans and a t-shirt but Britney suggested to change it for a schoolgirl outfit.

According to Nigel "Every piece of wardrobe in the video came from Kmart, and I was told at the time not one piece of clothing in the video cost more than $17. On that level, it's real. That probably, in retrospect, is a part of its charm."The knotted shirt design was Spears's idea, she recollects saying, "The outfits looked kind of dorky, so I was like, 'Let's tie up our shirts and be cute'".About the experience of shooting her first music video, Spears said, "It was a wonderful experience. All these people there, working for you. I had my own trailer. It was an amazing experience". The music video was shot at Venice High School, the same school used to film the movie Grease.

I'm unsure about the date, since Wikipedia claims it was on the 26th that it premiered on MTV, but the official britneyspears.com claims November 24th as the anniversary :idkney:

They have the Crazy date wrong though :idkney: they put the date it debuted on TRL, but it premiered way before in the Making the Video episode.

You went through all the entries on the website? :idkney: Where did you get the MTV premiere date?

I don't know :haha: I've read many pages, I think I went through the sources in Wikipedia, and they showed it premiered on July 17 on Making the Video, but it debuted on TRL in August (which is the date britneyspears.com has)

You're so cute. :haha: I checked my tablet's calendar and I have Crazy single release on Aug 23. I'm not sure if it's generally the same with all singles and their music videos but I know for a fact, when a music video premieres on Making the Video, they still feature it as 'world premiere' on MTV Fresh on a later date. Like, maybe the date of the real 'official' world premiere. Maybe, the Making the Video premiere is only an "advanced screening" ? :idkney:

but they show the video at the end :yaknow: I ignore if it entered on rotation right away or it wasn't until it premiered on TRL

the single did come out in August.

Yeah, that's what i'm saying, like an advanced screening. I read some pages just now and I saw the July first week date you were talking about. It's almost a 2 month gap between the single release. :omg: I think we should follow the TRL premiere because it's TRL. I don't think they will hold off on premiering it on the show if the 'world premiere' on Making the Video was the official one. :idkney:

how long did Sometimes and BOMT last on TRL though?

In Latin America's equivalent show, which was Los 10 + Pedidos, they wouldn't overlap two videos from the same artist on the countdown, but I think they wouldn't remove them until they naturally fell off the chart. I think the only case I remember was Backstreet Boys having two videos at the same time

RIGHT! Ok you do the math. 65 days is retirement on US TRL.

EDIT: They lowered it down to 50 eventually i forgot what year.
