Billboard released a new article discussing the success of the Britney album and the impact of Slave 4 U on Britney's career and pop culture. The article is part of Billboard's press releases to recap music from 20 years ago. I think this quote best describes the video: "Spears stares piercingly into the camera throughout much of the video, giving a look that would strike fear into the Parents Television Council -- and excitement into young boys and girls around the world." The article also reflects on the #FreeBritney movement, linking the Britney album to Britney's personal struggles: "Given what we know today about the pressure she faced, and what little jurisdiction she appears to have over her life and career, the power she wields in the singles, videos, and performances during her self-titled era hit even harder now than ever before." Very interesting read! Check it out here. On a second note, I really think that the Britney album should be re-evaluated by critics. They penned it at the time, but as of 2020, the album surely stands out as a pop masterpiece, with some of Britney's best released and unreleased tracks (justice for Cinderella). It still bothers me that the singles were not as missive on the charts in USA as they were outside, where nearly all singles were top 3 or top 5 in charts like France, UK, and Australia.. What do you guys think?
